QUINCY —Tanninger Entertainment has announced its latest venture into the world of theatre with the production of ‘The Queen of Versailles’, a new musical collaboration between Oscar and Tony Award winner Stephen Schwartz, and Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth, who is also serving as producer.
The musical is based on Lauren Greenfield’s documentary film and the real-life stories of Jackie and David Siegel. Tanninger is co-founded by Quincy native and Patio Restaurant & Lounge owner, Ryan Jude Tanner.
According to a news release:
“The Queen of Versailles promises to transport audiences on a captivating journey of love, ambition, and intrigue,” Tanner said. “With Schwartz’s enchanting score and Chenoweth’s unparalleled talent, the production promises to be a theatrical masterpiece that will captivate audiences around the globe. We are thrilled to embark on this exciting project with Stephen and Kristin. Their combined brilliance and creativity are sure to bring ‘The Queen of Versailles’ to life in a way that will leave audiences spellbound. Literally!”
Chenoweth is reuniting with Schwartz for the first time since their Broadway mega-hit Wicked, now in its 21st year on Broadway.
Chenoweth, whose dazzling performances have earned her a place among Broadway’s elite, shared her excitement about taking on the role of Jackie Siegel.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on Tanninger’s incredible work for years, and when we all shook hands on this project, I knew magic was about to happen,” Chenoweth said. “The ‘Queen of Versailles’ isn’t just a story; it’s a journey towards the American dream, a testament to family, and home, which, for me is Oklahoma through and through. Can you imagine how my heart is bursting at the seams to work with my Oklahoman family, who shares my dream, my vision? Oh, I’m more than thrilled; I’m walking on cloud nine! Coming from a small-town background, I truly admire Ryan’s steadfast dedication to Quincy and his full throttle efforts in giving back to the community. “
The Queen of Versailles marks another significant milestone for Tanninger Entertainment, whose Broadway credits include ‘Pippin’ (2013), ‘Waitress’ (2015), ‘Come From Away’ (2017) and ‘OKLAHOMA!’ (2019).
Tanninger’s U.S. based shows have grossed over $450M since 2013. Tanninger won its first Tony for the 2013 musical revival of Schwartz’s Pippin. Tanninger currently serves as co-producer of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders, a new musical which began Broadway previews on March 16.
The Queen of Versailles begins a pre-Broadway world premiere at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre July 16 and will run through August 18. Tickets are currently on sale.
