UTICA, N.Y. — The buzz surrounding “The Christmas Letter,” the movie being filmed in Utica, is through the roof. And it’s about to get even more exciting.
NEWSChannel 2 has taken you behind the scenes of the film, which has been using Utica as its backdrop this month.
Angus Benfield stars in “The Christmas Letter,” a story about two friends with contrasting lives. Benfield’s character, Joe, receives an over-the-top Christmas letter from his friend every year, leading to adventures with Joe and his family.
Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid and Brian Doyle-Murray were announced as cast members for the local flick.
All three were in the holiday classic “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” and this 2024 movie brings them back together again.
With the screenplay written by former Ilion resident Mike Cunningham, the local ties are strong.
An Ilion native wrote the movie. It is being filmed in the Mohawk Valley. Doyle-Murray is connected to the area, too, as he was once part owner of the Utica Blue Sox in the 1980s. And Film Utica is assisting Lama Entertainment to put the movie together.
Today, “The Christmas Letter” became a bit more local. Another name was added to the cast—one we know you’ll recognize.
Our very own Kristen Copeland made an appearance on set for a scene in “The Christmas Letter.”
We can’t give too much of the movie away. But what we can say is that Kristen plays a role she was born for, news anchor.
Here are a few photos from Kristen’s time on the set of “The Christmas Letter.”
We will have much more behind-the-scenes footage on Monday of what it was like on the set of “The Christmas Letter” for Kristen’s role.
In the meantime, be sure to follow our social media pages for the latest on the movie.
Everyone here at NEWSChannel 2 is so proud of Kristen and can’t wait to watch our friend on the big screen.
