NFL's starting quarterback has been formally benched.

Ten games into the 2022 season, the Houston Texans have benched second-year quarterback Davis Mills.

The announcement that veteran quarterback Kyle Allen will start against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday came from head coach Lovie Smith on Friday.

This year, Mills has a 1-8-1 record as a starter. He has thrown at least one interception in each of the Texans' last five games,

giving him a season total of 11 picks. He had just 139 yards, no touchdowns,

and two interceptions in Sunday's dreadful loss to the Washington Commanders.

For the Texans last season, Mills, a third-round pick in the 2021 draft, started 13 games.

He had respectable first-year results but did not advance in Year 2.

This weekend, Allen, 28, will start the NFL in place of Mills for the 18th time.
